Location: JFK Medical Center. Atlantis, FL Improvement: 10 lbs Weight Loss / 3.2% Reduction of Body Fat Time: 3 Months Program: 2008 Total Transformation Challenge The biggest challenge for me was probably diet. I am not disciplined when it comes to eating. Although I don’t over eat or indulge in large quantities of my favorite foods, if I want something, I eat it. I think that some nutritional tips might be helpful to the employees who take on the next Transformation Challenge. Nothing extravagant, perhaps a weekly tip via e-mail to the participants. When is the best time of day to eat carbs? In general, is it better to have 5 small meals vs. 3 larger ones? Fluid retention…to drink or not to drink. How much water is good and how much is too much? How many hours should I have between my last meal of the day and bed time? I was motivated to stay on course by my peers. Not only did I enjoy the camaraderie in the gym, but walking down the halls or in the cafeteria we (the participants) would run into each other and compare notes or talk about our latest challenge accomplishment. I have to admit, I didn’t really “change” my diet, but I attempted to make better choices. I ate more salads at lunch time, when my “normal” choice would have been a hot lunch. I don’t think anyone wants the “same results” that I got, since I’ve gone up in body weight AND body fat. However, my advice to others regarding the gym would be this…its fun! I am going to continue to come to the Wellness Center and work out. My HR partner, Martha, and I have decided that we enjoy the 3 hours a week we spend on doing something for ourselves and we don’t want to lose that. Thanks for pushing us to be the best we can be! |
