Name: S. Palestino
Location: JFK Medical Center. Atlantis, FL
Improvement: 21 lbs Weight Loss / 3% Reduction of Body Fat
Time: 3 Months
Program: 2008 Total Transformation Challenge

What was your biggest challenge/obstacle(s)?
Primarily my work schedule and getting started. Once you can get past the excuses why you can’t do it, you will find a way if the desire is strong enough. Although it was very busy I was determined to make time for myself and to reach my weekly goals. Some of the challenges were very difficult, but as time goes on you will be better able to meet them.

What motivated you to stay on the course?
Being part of a team, we really encouraged each other by watching out for what we ate, being there for each other during challenges, and calling each other with results at the end of the week. I also had personal goals that I was determined to meet and each week got more challenging, but a little easier as each small goal was met and I built up strength and stamina.

Did your diet change? If so, how?
I just made up my mind that it was time to get back to healthier eating habits. I had done it when I was younger and knew I could do it again, but I had to re-train myself. I first made sure I didn’t have food items at home that would set me up for failure. Then went shopping for the “right” types of foods, high protein, vegetables and limited carbohydrates, fats and foods high in sugars. Just simple, healthy eating habits. I also tried some new foods (like tofu) and incorporated them into my diet. Changed my eating habits to smaller, portion controlled meals with snacks & tried not to eat at least 2-3 hours before bed.

What advice could you give to others that want the same results?
Take it one day at a time and set small goals. As you reach those goals you will be ore encouraged to continue and having someone (or several people) to do it with you are a major plus. Clean out your closets and drawers as you go along so you will not have those clothes that no longer fit (because they are too big) around to allow you to go backwards in the process.

How is this experience going to affect you going forward?
I plan to continue the course. I have worked hard and am very proud of my accomplishments. As I have (and continue) to lose weight and gain strength I have gotten rid of my “big” clothes and I will take on new challenges.
