Name: A. Chin
Location: JFK Medical Center. Atlantis, FL Improvement: 3% Reduction of Body Fat / Increased Strength Time: 3 Months Program: 2008 / 2010 Total Transformation Challenge Challenges: My biggest challenge/obstacle was finding the strength to go to the EWC/gym and workout after a long & exhausting day at work. However, the biggest one was giving up 'family time' with my son, especially in the evenings. There were many evenings/nights that my teenage son was alone at home while I did my challenges/workout in the EWC... I even gave up some of my weekend time with him so I could go to the gym...my son got in the habit of asking "Mom, aren't you going to the gym today?", if he did not hear me mention anything about the gym. Motivation: My motivation to stay on the course was to get healthy, increase my energy level, and improve my inner being, as well as my outer appearance. My son also played a big part in keeping me focused on exercising when I did not feel like doing so. We often time worked out together at home using the Wii Fit and accompanying me to the gym. Dietary Changes: My diet did change a lot!!! I have to discipline myself to avoid sweets (which I have a severe weakness for), condition myself to eat my carbs before 6pm and decrease the amount...this was difficult because I love rice and I am accustomed to eating rice with dinner most of the time. I had to train myself to eat small frequent meals, approximately every 3-4 hours. There were many struggles maintaining this one! Being a nurse and caring for patients, it was difficult to find the time to eat every 3-4hours...there were moments when I couldn't even find the time to use the bathroom. I increased my intake of fruits & veggies and increase water intake (I'm not crazy about water, so I had to divert to favored water to get it in). Advice to Others: Stay strong and find whatever it takes to encourage you to stay motivated...do whatever it takes to achieve your goals and keep in mind that you may have to make sacrifices to obtain those goals. Staying healthy is a long term commitment and it takes perseverance and endurance! Going Forward: This experience has affected me in going forward by knowing that I can face any challenges that may arise to stay motivated to achieve my goals...perseverance is the key! I was able to last the entire duration of this transformation challenge and I am still alive and kicking!!!!! |
