Name: S. Marsh
Location: JFK Medical Center. Atlantis, FL
Improvement: Toning & Increased Strength
Time: 3 Months
Program: 2009 Total Transformation Challenge

What was your biggest challenge/obstacle?
The biggest challenge was finding time to exercise. I am a full time nurse, single mother of four and a part-time student. I feel like I am constantly on the go! Fitting exercise in a my routine was not an easy task.

What motivated you to stay on the course?
I was in panic when I realized my size 8 was too tight! I did not realize I had gained so much weight in such a short period of time! I had gained 24lbs. in one year. Seeing the change in my body and fitting in my clothes was great motivation to stay on course.

Did your diet change? If so, how?
I replaced simple carbohydrates with whole grains. Not that I didn't have a slice of cake occasionally! I incorporated more fruits and  vegetables. I ate less red meat, and more fish and chicken in my meals. I keep a protein shake in my vehicle just in case I get hungry on the road.

What advice could you give to others who want the same results?
Keep on the course. When you overindulge do not be discouraged. Do some extra mileage, do more repetitions during your workouts. Eat less at your next meal.

Drink plenty of water. I find that drinking warm tea curbs my appetite. When you eat out, start with a salad or soup. Ask the waiter to keep the bread and butter away from the table. Share meals. Some restaurants serve huge portions.

I always keep extra Healthy Choice Meals on hand. This helps when I do not feel like cooking. It prevents me from grabbing unhealthy foods, especially when you are tired and hungry!

I always park on the 4th floor or above and walk up and down the stairs. When my kids are playing tennis, I use the opportunity to walk around the nearby track until I am tired.

How is this experience going to affect you going forward?
Participating in this challenge was a great experience. It made me fall in love with exercise again. I make better choices in my diet and actually find healthy foods that I enjoy. Thanks Rami for your encouragement and for creating this program.
