Name: V. Riva
Improvement: 10lbs. Weight Loss / 2.5% Reduction of Body fat Time: 3 months Program: 2011 Total Transformation Challenge What was your biggest challenge / obstacle (s)? It was working in enough time to get the SPEEDLINE workouts and challenges in. There were days when it would have been so easy to say "I’ll do it another day", but then I would stop and think that's just an excuse, get your touché to the gym and get your workout in. What motivated you to stay on the course? I have been running/walking marathons for several years and my body was used to that certain type of fitness activity and while I wasn't gaining weight I was having a hard time losing it. I decided it was time to start weight training and doing different activities to boost my metabolism, lose weight and get stronger. As the pounds dropped each week and I started to see how my clothes were getting loser, it kept me very motivated to complete the challenge. Did your diet change? If so, How? Please be detailed! I didn't really change my diet per se. But what I did do was make a conscious effort to maintain a calorie level that could meet my needs as I train for an upcoming marathon, work out during the challenge period and promote weight loss. I also switched up my eating habits from 3 meals a day to 5 to 6 smaller meals to help keep my blood sugar on a good level so that I wasn't overly hungry. What advice could you give to others that want the same results? Be patient, with anything weight training, aerobic fitness and weight loss take time to achieve. It doesn't happen overnight but gradually over a few weeks. How is this experience going to affect you going forward? This was a great start. I'm going to continue to work out regularly at the Employee Wellness Center and plan on participating in the new Body Make Over Challenge over the summer. My ultimate goal is to be as fit as possible and set a new PR at the NYC Marathon this fall. |
